A Viticultural Excursion for the Senses

Follow folk legends and fairytales for a fabled itinerary through the valleys, forests and villages of Provence, the Var and the Côte d’Azur. Though the coasts and lavender fields of Southern France have been well-documented, its many mountains, canyons and hilltop village perchés, “perched villages,” offer yet another view of this beautiful region to uncover. Passionate voyagers will find picturesque towns tucked away behind cliffs and amid woods, announced by steeples and towers and dotted along paths that have been walked since the times of the Crusades. Traditional fare and Provencal wines, preserved and refined throughout millennia, are celebrated by even the most demanding Epicureans.

Alluring Abodes for the Bon Vivant

Find solace in the tranquility of the Commanderie de Peyrassol and the Bastide de Moustiers where the idyllic rooms perfectly complement their setting. The Commanderie, a vineyard with guest rooms and an intimate table d’hôte, houses an extensive private collection of contemporary art, while the Bastide, at the Alpine foothills, is best known for its exceptional cuisine. Whether you are waiting between courses on a terrace at the Bastide, circled by olive trees and lavender fields, or touring the winery at Peyrassol, surrounded by monumental sculptures, do not hesitate to ask for a glass of this region’s renowned rosé.

Raise your Glass for the Love of Life

The Château de Saint Martin certainly knows a thing or two about wine. Run by a family of ancient nobility since 1740, passed on from mother to daughter almost exclusively, the historic Saint Martin has been producing legendary cru classés since 1955. After twenty centuries of wine production (the grounds were originally occupied by wine-producing Romans), the Château has been supplying its productions to the finest restaurateurs and cellars around the globe. Consider trying some of its Cuvée Grande Réserve Rosé, which won the CGA golden medal provided by the French State in 2014.

Featured Experience: The Verdon National Park

Balmy temperatures make Provence an ideal summertime destination, so refresh yourself on a kayak tour in the grand European canyon of the Gorges du Verdon. With eight miles of wild gorge to cover, the river boasts spectacular views, ranging from the idyllic to the dramatic. Trickling down from the Southern Alps, the turquoise waters give the Verdon river its name: passing through a number of lakes, it spills out into the Lake of Sainte-Croix. The Verdon National Park is dotted with Medieval villages all around, including Aups, which is known for its famous truffles and bustling market square.
